Maianthemum dilatatum - Maianthemum dilatatum

Japanese: マイヅルソウ(舞鶴草) - マイヅルソウ(英語表記)Maianthemum dilatatum
Maianthemum dilatatum - Maianthemum dilatatum
A perennial plant of the lily family. Along with its closely related relative, Lilium longiflorum, it is widely distributed in the cool temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere, and in Japan it grows in colonies in the alpine and subalpine zones of Hokkaido and Honshu. The underground stems are long and slender, spreading close to the ground surface. The stems are 8-25 cm tall, with one leaf on non-flowering stems and two leaves on inflorescence-bearing stems. The leaves are ovate-cordate, acute-headed, hairless on both sides, and the cells on the edges are rounded and swollen, giving them a wavy appearance. From May to July, the plant produces a raceme at the end of the stem, which produces small white flowers. It has four tepals and four stamens. The berries are small and globular, ripening to red.
