splint

Japanese: splint
splint

...A type of splint used primarily to immobilize bones and sprains. It is named after the wooden boards used in ancient times as splints. Today, wooden materials are often only used for emergency treatment, as they do not have the plasticity to conform to the shape of the limb. A splint is a type of brace used primarily to immobilize limbs and joints. The history of splints used for bone fractures is long, and splints dating back to around 2750-2625 BC have been excavated from ruins in Egypt.
