...A scholar of Japanese classics in the late Edo and Meiji periods. Commonly known as Hikosuke, later Morito. His pen name was Yomomura. Born in the Edo residence of the Shinshu Takashima Domain. He studied poetry under Unno Yuo and became a disciple of Hirata Kanetane. During the late Edo period, he supported the idea of revering the emperor and expelling the barbarians, and made frequent contact with loyalists. After the Meiji Restoration, he served as an official at the Imperial Academy and a professor at the Takashima Domain Imperial Academy, and was the chief priest of Kehi Shrine and other major shrines around the country. He also served as a professor at the University of Tokyo and a lecturer at Kokugakuin.
