Pyrocoelia fumosa (black-spotted firefly) and Cyphonocerus ruficollis (brown-spotted firefly) are diurnal fireflies, but they emit weak light from vestigial light organs. P. rufa (white-spotted firefly) males are about 17 mm long, and wingless females are about 30 mm long, making them the largest species of firefly found in Japan.
