Cloud Pearl - Whirlpool
〘Noun〙 A part of a saddle that is placed on the buttocks of a decorative horse. A type of horse harness with a jewel surrounded by flame patterns and placed on a cloud-shaped base. The name comes from its high, mounded shape. Those from the Kofun period are large horse buttocks with several legs attached all around, and some are decorated with apricot leaves . Many are made of iron plated with gold and copper. [Wamyosho, 10 volumes (around 934)]

〘名〙 飾り馬の尻に据える唐鞍(からくら)の部分品。宝珠の周辺に火炎形を配し、雲形の台にのせた馬具の一種。うず高く盛り上がった形状による名称。古墳時代のものは、馬の尻繋(しりがい)のものが大きく、数本の脚が四周につけられ、それに杏葉(ぎょうよう)を装着するものもある。鉄地金銅張りのものが多い。〔十巻本和名抄(934頃)〕
