This hot spring is located in the former Oten village area of Tensui Town, Tamana County, Kumamoto Prefecture. It is located at the western foot of Mt. Sannodake, one of the peaks of the Kinpu mountain range west of Kumamoto City, facing the Ariake Sea to the west, and is a secluded hot spring with mandarin orange orchards spreading out on the mountain behind it. Simple spring water, 38°C. Opened in the early Meiji period, there were four or five hot spring inns from the Taisho to Showa periods, but now there is only one. Natsume Soseki's Kusamakura is set against the backdrop of this place, and the building from that time is now the Soseki Museum. 熊本県玉名郡天水町,旧小天村地区にある温泉。熊本市の西方金峰山群の一峰,三ノ岳の西麓にあり,西方は有明海に面し,裏山にミカン園が広がるひなびた温泉。単純泉,38℃。明治初期に開かれ,大正~昭和にかけて4~5軒の温泉宿があったが,今は1軒だけとなった。夏目漱石の《草枕》はここを背景にしたもので,当時の建物は漱石館となっている。【岩本 政教】
