Y organ - Waikikan

Located in the antennal or maxillary segments of arthropod crustaceans, it is an endocrine organ consisting of a collection of cells with a diameter of about 10 micrometers, also called the Y gland. It is thought to be homologous to the prothoracic gland of insects, and secretes the molting-promoting hormone crustecdysone. This hormone is very similar in structure and action to the prothoracic gland hormone ecdysone. The function of the Y organ is inhibited by the neurosecretory hormones secreted from the X organ via the sinus gland in the eyestalk.

節足動物甲殻類の頭部触角節または小顎(しょうがく)節にあり、直径10マイクロメートル前後の細胞の集合した内分泌器官で、Y腺(せん)ともいう。昆虫の前胸腺と相同と考えられ、脱皮促進ホルモンのクルステクジソンcrustecdysoneを分泌する。このホルモンは前胸腺ホルモンのエクジソンecdysoneと構造、作用ともよく類似している。Y器官の働きは、眼柄中にあるサイナス腺を経て分泌されるX器官の神経分泌ホルモンにより抑制される。
