〘Noun〙① A disease in which water or gas accumulates in the intestines, causing the abdomen to swell and the veins to appear blue like a tortoise shell. Intestinal fullness . [Wamyosho, 10 volumes (c. 934)]② Refers to the abdomen of a pregnant woman. *Joruri, Hime Komatsuko Hi no Yu (1757), vol. 2 "She returns with a turtle-like belly." ③ The round, bun-shaped part of the foundation of a building or the bottom of the pillars of a torii gate, which is hardened with plaster or similar . *Nobunaga Koki (1598), vol. 1 "The great moat has become so hazy that they have dug it up into her belly, and made it strong."
