"El Alegrit" - El Alegrit

...The Havana version became the danza habanera around 1800. The Spanish composer Sebastián Yradier (1809-65) discovered the habanera while in Cuba, and wrote two works in that style in the 1840s, El Areglito and La Paloma. The former became famous as the habanera aria when Bizet included it in his opera Carmen, and the latter was widely performed in Europe and the United States until the early 20th century.
