Pozzuoli (English spelling)

Japanese: ポッツオリ(英語表記)Pozzuoli
Pozzuoli (English spelling)
A port and industrial city in Campania, southern Italy. Population 70,350 (1981). Formerly called Puteoli. Located in the former volcanic region of Campi Flegrei on the outskirts of Naples, it faces the bay of the same name. Founded as a Greek colony in the 6th century BC, it flourished as one of the political, military and commercial centers of the Roman period. However, with the construction of the port of Ostia at the mouth of the Tiber, it became a regional port. It was destroyed in barbarian raids in the 5th and 6th centuries, but was rebuilt after the old city. [Mochizuki Kazushi]
