Also called "Mosshokushi". It is the dried galls that are caused by the ink wasp parasitizing the base of young branches of the genus Quercus in the Fagaceae family. It is essentially the same as oak gall, only the type of parasitic insect is different. It is a pale yellow to grayish green spherical or pear-shaped substance with a hollow interior, about 1 to 2.5 cm in diameter. The main component is tannin. It is hydrolyzed to produce gallic acid. 〈もっしょくし〉とも。ブナ科ナラ属の若枝の付け根にインクタマバチが寄生して生じた虫こぶを乾燥したもの。五倍子と本質的に同じもので,寄生昆虫の種類が異なるだけ。直径1〜2.5cmほどの,内部に空洞がある淡黄〜帯灰緑色の球形または西洋ナシ形物質。主成分はタンニン。加水分解して没食子酸を得る。
