...In the early Genroku period (1688-1704), various types of sandals were made, including Kyoto sandals with thin bamboo skin bases and scarlet or black velvet straps, hollow sandals with straw bases and velvet straps that were cut into thin strips in the middle, gonzo sandals for children with woven rush grass and loops at the back, and yukitama sandals with animal skin on the sole and a shirigane (shirigane) on the back. In the middle period, there were uratsuke sandals with leather sandwiched between two layers of sole, hemp urazori sandals with braided hemp straps sewn to the back of the bamboo skin surface, and Fujikura sandals with braided straps of other materials sewn to the back. Many Edo period sandals had thin surfaces with long straps. ...
