The Little Prince - The Star Prince (English)

A work by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Born in Lyon, France's second largest city, as the eldest son of a noble family of counts that had existed since the Middle Ages, Saint-Exupéry was fascinated by airplanes ever since he first flew in an airplane at the age of 12. After several jobs, he joined a commercial airline in 1926 and became a pilot for regular mail flights between Toulouse and Casablanca, and between Casablanca and Dakar. This is how he met the Sahara Desert, the setting of The Little Prince. In 1931, he married Consuelo Sun-sin, a native of San Salvador who is the model for the rose in the work. He went into exile in the United States for two and a half years from January 1941. This work was written from May 1942 to January of the following year, and was published that April. The story begins when a mail pilot makes an emergency landing in the desert and meets a mysterious boy. From the boy's monologue, Saint-Exupéry learns that the boy is a little star prince who left his planet due to a disagreement with his rose, traveled to various planets, and then came to Earth. He also learns the expression "creer des liens" from a fox he befriends on Earth. A "bond" is formed between the pilot and the prince, who learns of the prince's melancholy life, but the prince returns to his planet, leaving the pilot behind. After publishing this work, Saint-Exupéry left the United States in the hope of returning to the front lines, and joined the 33-2nd Squadron in Algiers. On July 31, 1944, he disappeared while on a reconnaissance flight from Corsica.
