Toyono [town] - Toyono
A former town in Shimomashiki District, central Kumamoto Prefecture. In 2000, Toyono Village was incorporated as a town. Toyono Village was formed in 1889 when Toyoda District and Okumano District merged. It is surrounded on three sides by mountains with an altitude of 40 to 350 meters, forming a small basin. In the western hills, there is the ruins of Jousui-ji Temple, which existed from the Nara to early Heian periods, and four stone monuments bearing inscriptions from that time remain. The main industry is agriculture, with rice, livestock, tomatoes, melons, and other crops thriving, and Toyono Agri Park has been established to promote this industry. In the mountains in the northwest, there is Hagio Reservoir, a famous fishing spot. In January 2005, it merged with Misumi Town, Shiranui Town, Uto District, Matsubashi Town, and Ogawa Town, Shimomashiki District, to form a city, Uki City. 31.54 km 2 , 5,179 people (2003).

Toyono [town] [Toyono]

A former town in Kamiminochi County, which occupies the northern part of the Nagano Basin in northern Nagano Prefecture. The Chikuma River flows north through the eastern part of the town. The central settlement developed as a post town on the Hokkoku Waki-Okan route, and is still a key transportation hub where the Shinetsu Main Line and the Iiyama Line branch off. Apple and grape cultivation is thriving. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Nagano City along with Ooka Village in Sarashina County, Togakushi Village in Kamiminochi County, and Kinasa Village. 19.90 km2 . Population: 10,241 (2003).

熊本県中央部,下益城郡の旧町。2000年豊野村から町制。豊野村は1889年の町村制施行により豊田郷と小熊野郷が合併して発足した。三方を標高40〜350mの山陵地に囲まれ,小盆地を形成する。西部丘陵地には奈良〜平安初期に存在した浄水寺跡があり,当時の紀年銘をもつ四つの石碑が残存。主産業は農業で,米作,畜産のほかトマト,プリンスメロンなどの栽培が盛んで,アグリパーク豊野を設け振興を計っている。北西部の山間には釣場として有名な萩尾溜池がある。2005年1月宇土郡三角町,不知火町,下益城郡松橋町,小川町と合併し市制,宇城市となる。31.54km2,5179人(2003)。

長野県北部,長野盆地北部を占める上水内(かみみのち)郡の旧町。東部を千曲川が北流する。中心集落は北国脇往還の宿場町として発達,現在も信越本線と飯山線を分岐する交通要地。リンゴ,ブドウの栽培が盛ん。2005年1月更級郡大岡村,上水内郡戸隠村,鬼無里村と長野市へ編入。19.90km2。1万241人(2003)。
