Wang Yuan

Japanese: 王淵 - おうえん（英語表記）Wang Yuan

A Chinese painter from the late Yuan Dynasty. Born in Qiantang, Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province). His pen name was Ruoshui and his pen name was Tanxuan. He was a pupil of Zhao Mengfu. He learned landscape painting from Guo Xi, bird-and-flower painting from Huang Quan, and figure painting from the Tang Dynasty's Zhou Fang. He was particularly skilled in bird-and-flower painting, and was known for his Goulet-filled colour technique. His renowned work includes "Paintings of Bamboo and Stone with Birds" (Shanghai Museum).

中国，元末の画家。杭州銭塘 (浙江省) の出身。字は若水，号は澹軒。趙孟頫 (ちょうもうふ) の弟子。山水画法は郭煕，花鳥画法は黄筌，人物画法は唐の周昉をそれぞれ師として修得した。なかでも花鳥画を得意とし，勾勒填彩 (こうろくてんさい) 画法による作風を特色とした。伝称作品に『竹石集禽図』 (上海博物館) がある。
