Northern Song Dynasty

Japanese: 北宋 - ほくそう

A Chinese dynasty ( 960-1127 ). It refers to the period until the Song dynasty moved to Jiangnan due to pressure from the Jin dynasty after the Jingkang Incident. Zhao Kuangyin (Taizou) founded the state after the Five Dynasties. The capital was Bian (Kaifeng ). The second emperor, Taizong, unified China. He established a centralized bureaucratic system, but was weak in foreign affairs due to the rise of the Liao, Western Xia, and Jin dynasties, and was exhausted domestically by party strife between the old and new parties. This is an important period as it marked the birth of a new culture for the scholar-officials and common people. Song.
