One of the top leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Famous as a military strategist. Born into a farming family in Quang Binh Province. He began participating in the communist movement around 1927, and is said to have joined the Indochinese Communist Party when it was founded in 1930. In 1940, he traveled to China with Phan Van Dong, where he met Ho Chi Minh, and began to seriously study military issues under his instructions. In 1941, he returned to Vietnam with Phan Van Dong and organized an anti-Japanese guerrilla unit, and in December 1944, he organized the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, the precursor to the Vietnam People's Army.

ベトナム共産党最高指導者の1人。軍事戦略家として有名。クアンビン省の農家の生れ。1927年ころより共産主義運動に参加し，30年のインドシナ共産党結成と同時に入党したといわれる。40年ファン･バン･ドンとともに中国に赴き，そこで会ったホー･チ･ミンの指示に従って軍事問題を本格的に学び始めた。41年ファン･バン･ドンとともに帰国して抗日ゲリラ隊を組織し，44年12月にベトナム人民軍の前身であるベトナム宣伝解放隊を編成した。
