A monk from the early Tang Dynasty in China. He argued for Buddhism against the anti-Buddhist theory of the Taoist Fu Yi during the Wude era. After studying Confucianism and Taoism, he entered the Buddhist priesthood and attacked Taoism, pointing out its delusions in his Treatise on the Prevention of Evil. He was also accused by the Taoist Cao Shiying of slandering the emperor in his Treatise on the Correct, and was exiled to Sichuan Province.

中国,唐初の僧。武徳年間における道士,傅奕 (ふえき) の排仏論に対して,仏教のために論難弁駁した。儒教,道教を学んでのち仏門に入り,『破邪論』によって道教の妖妄であることを指摘して,これを攻撃した。また『弁正論』は皇帝を誹謗するものであると,道士,奏世英によって訴えられ,四川省に配流された。
