Born: February 24, 1888. [Died] March 17, 1941. German zoologist and professor at the University of Munich. He developed a method for marking each part of an embryo with localized dye and tracing which parts of the adult would become them. Using this method, he created a map of the distribution of primordia in amphibian embryos (1922). This not only provided the basic information for transplantation experiments by H. Spemann and others, but also promoted the development of embryology in the direction of dynamically understanding developmental phenomena through the tracing of morphogenetic movements. Vogt |
