A type of dialogue in a play, a special type of monologue. When there are multiple people on stage, a certain person speaks a fact or idea that should not be known to the other people, to the audience only, and the assumption is that the other people cannot hear it. It was often used in traditional plays, but in modern plays it is often rejected as unnatural.
