Kalpa-sūtra (English spelling)

Japanese: カルパ･スートラ（英語表記）Kalpa‐sūtra

It is an outline of the religious rites of the Brahmans in ancient India, and is translated as "ritual sutra." After the establishment of the Vedic scriptures, six supplementary texts called the Vedāṅga were created as a guide for understanding and practicing them. The Kalpa sutra, which contains all the rules necessary for performing the rituals prescribed in the Vedic scriptures, is one of these, and is considered the most important of the six. It is divided into four sections: (1) Shrautā sutra (revelation sutra), (2) Grihya sutra (family sutra), (3) Shrubha sutra (altar sutra), and (4) Dharma sutra (vindictive sutra).

古代インド，バラモン教の宗教儀礼の綱要書で，〈祭事経〉と訳される。ベーダ聖典の成立後，その理解と実践のための手引書として《ベーダーンガVedāṅga》と称する6種の補助的文献群が成立した。ベーダ聖典に定められた祭式を行うために必要な規則を網羅した《カルパ･スートラ》もその一つで，6種中もっとも重要視されている。(1)シュラウタ･スートラ(天啓経)，(2)グリヒヤ･スートラ(家庭経)，(3)シュルバ･スートラ(祭壇経)，(4)ダルマ･スートラ(律法経)の4部門に分かれている。
