Italy's leading daily newspaper. Founded in Milan in 1876 with funding from B. Crespi textiles. A conservative newspaper that reflected the wishes of the northern industrial capitalist class, in the 1920s it sharply criticized Mussolini and the Fascist regime under the direction of its famous editor-in-chief, L. Albertini. In 1926 it was suppressed for opposing the licensing system for daily newspapers and the certification of journalists by the Fascist trade guild, and after three months of suspension, the main staff was replaced by Fascists to become an official newspaper.

イタリアの代表的日刊紙。1876年ミラノで創刊。クレスピB.Crespi紡織の出資による。北部産業資本家層の意向を反映する保守的な新聞であったが，名編集長アルベルティニL.Albertiniのもと1920年代にはムッソリーニ，ファッショ体制を鋭く批判。26年日刊紙の許可制，ファシスト同業組合による記者資格認定などに反対したため弾圧され，3ヵ月休刊の後，主要スタッフをファシストに改新して機関新聞化する。
