This ferry crosses the Tone River between Kurihashi-shuku (present-day Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture) and Nakada-shuku (present-day Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture) on the Nikko road, and the Tone River between them is called Fusa-gawa. At normal water levels, the river is about 40 ken wide and 9 shaku high, but when it becomes 12 or 13 shaku high, boats are stopped. Kurihashi-shuku was equipped with two official boats, five tea boats, and two horse-drawn boats. A temporary boat bridge was built when the Shogun made a pilgrimage to Nikko. → Related Articles Nikko Shakan Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
