A type of Buddhist implement. A container for scattering incense and flowers in front of the Buddha during Buddhist ceremonies. Most are bamboo baskets, but some are made of gilt bronze and decorated. A representative example is the bamboo basket preserved in the Shosoin Repository, the Kamakura period "Gold and Silver Openwork Carved Flower Basket" (National Treasure) owned by Shinshoji Temple in Shiga. 仏具の一つ。仏教の法会で仏前に散華 (さんげ) の香花を盛る容器。竹籠が多いが,金銅製で装飾を加えたものもある。正倉院伝存の竹籠,鎌倉時代作の滋賀神照寺蔵『金銀鍍透彫華籠』 (国宝) が代表例。
