Radiation therapy

Japanese:
Radiation therapy
Also called radiation therapy. A treatment method using radiation. X-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, and various radioactive elements are used. The main targets are malignant tumors such as cancer and sarcoma, as well as benign tumors such as hemangiomas, Graves' disease, scrofula, and various skin diseases. External irradiation is broadly divided into superficial treatment, in which relatively shallow areas are irradiated with low-voltage X-rays, and deep treatment, in which deep lesions are irradiated with high-voltage X-rays or cobalt-60. The latter uses ultra-high voltage X-rays or electron beams produced by betatrons or linear accelerators. Various radioactive elements, especially radioisotopes, are used for internal irradiation, and can be injected or taken orally, or inserted into a localized lesion for interstitial irradiation.
