Kizugawa Canal

…In the Edo period, along with the Aji River, it became a wharf for ships from various countries entering Osaka, and new fields such as Kagaya and Okajima were developed near the river mouth. With the construction of Osaka Port, which began in the late Meiji period, the Kizu River became an inland port that played a secondary role to the Port of Osaka. When the Kizu River Canal, which connects the Chikko area with the Kizu River, was completed in 1916, factories of steel, machinery, chemicals, cement, etc. were built along the canal. After World War I, many shipyards moved to the left bank of the Kizu River, forming a coastal industrial district. Construction of Osaka Nanko, which began in 1958, reclaimed 937 hectares of sea surface offshore the mouth of the Kizu River, and has been developed into a wharf for containers, ferries, and liners (regular ships), a port town, a seawater swimming area, a bird park, and a central park. …

…江戸時代には安治川とともに大坂に入港する諸国廻船の船着場となり，河口付近では加賀屋，恩加島などの新田開発が進んだ。明治後期から着手された大阪港整備工事に伴って，木津川は大阪港の補助的役割を果たす内港となり，1916年に築港地区と木津川を結ぶ木津川運河が完成すると，これに沿って鉄鋼，機械，化学，セメントなどの工場が立地し，さらに第1次大戦後は多くの造船所が木津川左岸に進出し，臨海工業地区が形成された。1958年に工事が始まった大阪南港は，木津川河口の沖合海面を937ha埋め立てたもので，コンテナー，フェリー，ライナー(定期船)用の埠頭，ポートタウン，海水遊泳場，野鳥園，中央公園などが造成されている。…
