A military strategy for the German Empire envisaging a war on two fronts against Russia and France. A similar strategy had already been used by Moltke the Elder, but German Chief of the General Staff A. von Schlieffen (in office 1891-1905) formulated a plan based on an offensive in the west and a defensive strategy in the east, with an emphasis on the right wing passing through Belgium and other areas, to encircle and annihilate the French army, and then turn east. His successor, Moltke the Younger, softened the emphasis on the right wing, but his revised plan was used as Germany's strategy in World War I.

ドイツ帝国における対露仏二正面戦争を想定した作戦構想。このような作戦はすでに大モルトケにおいても見られたが，ドイツ陸軍参謀総長A.vonシュリーフェン(在任1891‐1905)は，西方で攻勢，東方で防御を基本とし，しかもベルギーなどを経由する右翼を重視し，フランス軍を包囲殲滅（せんめつ）し，しかるのちに東方へと転じる構想を定式化した。彼の後任小モルトケによって右翼重視論は緩和されたが，彼の修正案が第1次世界大戦におけるドイツの戦略として用いられた。
