Born November 9th in the 24th year of the Guangxu era. In 1921, he went to Japan to study painting and music, and was influenced by Takehisa Yumeji. After returning to Japan, he attracted attention with his manga, which were full of lyricism and simple lines. He also published many translations from English, Russian, and Japanese, including a complete translation of "The Tale of Genji." He served as president of the Chinese Painting Academy in Shanghai, among other positions. He passed away on September 15th, 1975, at the age of 78. He was born in Zhejiang Province.
