A general term for birds of the Amazona genus and order Psittacidae. A medium-sized parrot with a short tail and length of 25-40 cm. Its feathers are generally green with bright red, blue, and yellow areas on its head and wings. They live in flocks of about 10-30 birds in the trees of tropical rainforests and mangrove forests, and feed mainly on fruit but also on grass seeds. They may also destroy crops planted near forests. Most of their nests are in tree holes, and each clutch contains 2-4 eggs, depending on the species. Amazons' mimicry abilities are comparable to those of the African grey parrot, which is also very skilled at mimicking, making them popular pets in Europe.
