French economist. Sometimes written as Boisguillebert. Born into a wealthy aristocratic family in Rouen, the capital of Normandy, he studied law in Paris and returned to his hometown in 1676 to take up a judicial position, becoming a judicial vicar at the Parlement of Rouen in 1690. He was concerned about the plight of the common people suffering under heavy taxes in France under the reign of Louis XIV, and especially the impoverishment of rural areas, and published his major work, Le détail de la France, anonymously in 1695.

フランスの経済学者。Boisguillebertと書かれる場合もある。ノルマンディーの中心都市ルーアンで富裕な貴族の家に生まれた。パリで法律を学び，1676年に故郷に戻って司法官職に就き，90年からルーアンの高等法院に属する司法代理官になった。彼は，ルイ14世治下のフランスで重税に苦しむ庶民の窮状と，とくに農村の疲弊を憂慮し，95年に主著《フランス詳論Le détail de la France》を匿名で出版した。
