A Chinese painter from the mid-Tang Dynasty, from the late 8th century to the early 9th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in Chang'an. Officially held the position of Chief Secretary of the Right Guard. A representative flower and bird painter of the Tang Dynasty, he was skilled in small works such as branch paintings and large murals. He was especially praised for the beauty of his colors. 中国，唐代中ごろ，8世紀後半から9世紀初頭の画家。生没年不詳。長安の人。官は右衛長史。花鳥画家として唐代を代表し，折枝画のような小さなものや，壁画の大画面にも腕をふるった。とくに，その色彩の美しさがたたえられた。まれに伝称作品はあるが，確証のある遺例はない。【海老根 聰郎】
