Japanese: 篇突 - へんつき

A treatise on haiku. Co-edited by Li You and Heo Luk. Published in 1698 (Genroku 11). According to the preface, it was written in despair at the stupidity of the haiku masters of the time. It takes up problematic seasonal words, gives examples and gives its views, and also compiles 28 items on formalities such as "congratulations" and "greetings," and etiquette such as "hokuku hyoren no ban." In addition, it includes one haiku piece by each editor and author. The title comes from a Middle Ages game of characters in which people competed by adding radicals to the side characters of Chinese characters. Kyorai wrote Tabineron to criticize this work, but it remained unpublished.

俳諧論書。李由･許六（きよりく）共編著。1698年(元禄11)刊。序によれば，当時の俳諧宗匠の暗愚を憂えて成した書という。問題のある季語を取りあげ，例句を掲げて見解を述べ，また，〈賀〉〈挨拶〉などの格式，〈発句評錬の弁〉のような作法などを28項目にまとめ，追加に編著者の俳文を1編ずつ載せる。書名は，漢字の旁（つくり）に偏をつぎ競う中古の文字遊戯による。去来は《旅寝論》を書いて本書を批判したが，未刊に終わった。
