Also known as N -benzoylaniline. Sublimable colorless leaf-shaped crystals. Melting point 161°C, boiling point 117-119°C (10mmHg). It can be obtained by condensing benzoyl chloride and aniline in ether using potassium carbonate as a catalyst, or by reacting benzophenone with hydroxylamine to produce benzophenone oxime, which is then reacted with phosphorus pentachloride in ether to cause a Beckmann rearrangement.
