Velour
(1) A type of woolen fabric. Originally the French word for velvet, but generally it refers to a fabric similar to velvet. It is made by raising a tightly woven woolen fabric, and is soft and lustrous, and is used for coats, women's and children's clothing, etc. There is also velour, which is made from brushed felt, and is used for hats. (2) Compared to suede, this refers to tanned leather with a coarser texture and longer nap. Mainly made from adult cowhide. It has the same uses as suede.

(1)毛織物の一種。本来フランス語でビロードのことをさすが,一般にはビロードに似た織物をいう。密に織った紡毛織物を毛羽立てて仕上げたもので,柔らかく光沢に富み,コート,婦人子ども服などにする。またフェルトを起毛したベロアもあり,帽子用にする。(2)スエードに比べ毛並みがあらく,起毛した毛足の長いなめし革をいう。主として成牛皮を使用。用途はスエードに同じ。
