Herero Rebellion - Herero Rebellion

Japanese:
Herero Rebellion - Herero Rebellion
A rebellion in 1904 by the Herero people of German South-West Africa (now Namibia) against the colonial authorities. Since 1894, German settlers in South-West Africa had been confiscating the Herero's cattle and forcibly expropriating land for railway construction. On January 12, 1904, as Germany was beginning to tighten its military rule, about 7,000 Herero people rose up in rebellion under the command of paramount chief Samuel Maharero. At first, the war tide was in favor of the Herero, as the Germans underestimated the Herero's strength and reinforcements were slow to arrive.
