An annual plant of the Asteraceae family native to Mexico. In horticulture, there are two species: African marigold (also called 'African marigold'), which grows 50-80cm tall and has large, odorous leaves, and French marigold (also called 'Peacock marigold'), which grows 30-40cm tall and has small, dwarf flowers. The leaves are pinnately lobed. The flowers come in yellow, orange, reddish brown, and other colors, and come in single and double blossoms. They flower for a long period from early summer to autumn, and are used in flower beds, potted plants, and as cut flowers. Hybrids of the two species (first generation hybrids) have also been created. They can be easily propagated by seed or cuttings. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
