The value of a commodity is determined by the amount of labor put into its production, but according to Marx (Capital), it must be the expenditure of labor with "socially standard conditions of production and socially average skill and intensity" that determines its value. Individual labor power acts as an average human labor power that constitutes the total social labor, and as a social human labor power equal to the others, and to that extent determines the value. This is socially necessary labor time. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
