A city in the Kiev Oblast of Ukraine. Until 1943 it was called Pereyaslav or Pereyaslavl'. Population 30,200 (1991). The name first appeared in the Byzantine-Russian Treaty of 907. In 992 a fortress was built here, and it became an important base for defending the southern border of Kievan Rus'. From the late 11th century it became the capital of the Pereyaslav Principality, but was destroyed by the Mongols in 1239. ウクライナのキエフ州の都市。1943年まではペレヤスラフPereyaslavないしペレヤスラブリPereyaslavl’とよばれた。人口3万0200(1991)。907年のビザンティン・ロシア条約に初めてその名が現れる。992年この地に要塞が建てられ,キエフ大公国の南方国境を守る重要な拠点となった。11世紀後半からペレヤスラフ公国の首都となるが,1239年モンゴル軍によって破壊された。16世紀後半からウクライナ・コサックの中心地の一つとなった。
