Born: February 4, 1740 in Stockholm Died: February 11, 1795, Stockholm. Swedish poet. He composed many chanson-style poems in the tradition of Swedish drinking songs, and would improvise music while playing the zither, singing them in taverns. He studied at Uppsala University, but left after less than a year. He worked for the national bank for a time, but fell into debt, and in 1763 he fled from his creditors and spent several months in Norway. After returning to Sweden, he became a minor official, and was favored by King Gustav III. His works were diverse, including satirical poems, religious poems, love songs, and parodies. His poetry collections include Fredmans epistlar (1790) and Fredmans sånger (91).
