Born: February 4, 1740 in Stockholm
Died: February 11, 1795, Stockholm. Swedish poet. He composed many chanson-style poems in the tradition of Swedish drinking songs, and would improvise music while playing the zither, singing them in taverns. He studied at Uppsala University, but left after less than a year. He worked for the national bank for a time, but fell into debt, and in 1763 he fled from his creditors and spent several months in Norway. After returning to Sweden, he became a minor official, and was favored by King Gustav III. His works were diverse, including satirical poems, religious poems, love songs, and parodies. His poetry collections include Fredmans epistlar (1790) and Fredmans sånger (91).

スウェーデンの詩人。この国の酒飲み歌の伝統をくむシャンソン風の詩を多く作り，みずからツィターを奏しながら即興の曲をつけて，酒場で歌ったりもした。ウプサラ大学で学んだが1年足らずで退学，しばらく国立銀行に勤めたが，借財をつくり，1763年債権者から逃れて数ヵ月ノルウェーで過した。帰国後小役人となり，グスタフ3世の知遇も得た。作品は風刺詩，宗教詩，恋歌，パロディーなど多彩。詩集に『フレドマンの書信』 Fredmans epistlar (1790) ，『フレドマンの歌』 Fredmans sånger (91) がある。
