Around 1170 - 1239
He was the fourth Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights. Elected in 1209, he transferred the Teutonic Knights from the Holy Land to Transylvania, but after a failed attempt there, he received the Golden Bull from Frederick II in Rimini in 1226, laying the legal foundation for their activities in Prussia. In 1230, he mediated between the conflicting emperor and pope at Ceprano, securing the Teutonic Knights' position in Prussia. In 1234, he placed the Prussian missions under the protection of the Pope, securing the protection of both the emperor and the pope.

ドイツ騎士修道会第4代総長。1209年に総長に選出され，ドイツ騎士修道会を聖地からトランシルバニアに移し，その地での活動に失敗したのちはフリードリヒ2世から26年にリミニで黄金印勅書を受け，プロイセンでの活躍の法的基礎をつくった。30年にはチェプラノで，対立していた皇帝と教皇の間をとりもち，ドイツ騎士修道会のプロイセンにおける地位を確保した。34年にはプロイセンの伝道地を教皇の保護下におき，皇帝･教皇の両者からの保護をとりつけた。
