Alonso Berruguete

Around 1486 to 1561
Spanish painter and sculptor. Born in Valencia, former Castile. His father, Pedro B. (c. 1450-c. 1503), was active in Urbino, Italy, and was the founder of Castilian Renaissance painting. Alonso was also a Mannerist who studied in Florence and Rome from 1504 to 1517, and was the leading figure in 16th-century Spanish sculpture. His work is characterized by expressionistic depictions of tall figures with intense movement, and the strong, glossy, warm colors enhance this effect.

スペインの画家，彫刻家。旧カスティリャ，バレンシア県に生まれる。画家の父ペドロPedro B.(1450ころ‐1503ころ)は，イタリアのウルビノでも活躍した，カスティリャ･ルネサンス絵画の創始者。アロンソも，1504‐17年にフィレンツェとローマに学んだマニエリストで，16世紀スペイン彫刻の第一人者。長身化された人物が激しい動勢を見せる表現主義的表現が特徴で，光沢のある暖色系の強い彩色がその効果を強めている。
