Obata Seto - Obata Seto

Japanese: 大畠瀬戸 - おおばたけのせと
Obata Seto - Obata Seto
A narrow strait in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture between Yanai City on the mainland and Oshima Island. Also known as Oshima Strait, it is a difficult place to navigate, with a width of about 800m, a strong current with a maximum current speed of 9.8kt, and various large and small reefs. It is the shortest route connecting Suo-Nada Sea and Hiroshima Bay, and is used by many large ships. In 1976, the Oshima Bridge, a continuous truss bridge, was completed at the narrowest part, alleviating the island's isolation.
