Karlovitz

…the treaty of peace between the Holy League (Austria, Russia, Venice, Poland) and the Ottoman Empire in the Austro-Turkish Wars at the end of the 17th century. It was signed in January 1699 in Karlovitz, Slavonia (now Sremski Karlovci). After suffering a major defeat in the war, the Ottoman Empire ceded central Hungary, Transylvania, Bacica, and Slavonia to Austria, Ukraine and Podolia on the right bank of the Dnieper to Poland, the Morea Peninsula and the Dalmatian coast to Venice, and the Don estuary area including Azov to Russia, marking the beginning of the retreat of the Ottoman Empire in Europe.
