A diary in which events are recorded day by day. In the past, they were often written on the calendar page of the Guju-reki calendar, so they were also called "rekiki." In contrast, diary entries written to leave detailed records of specific matters are called "bekki." The Gaikibekki diary from the Oina ceremony in 790 (Enryaku 9), cited in Seiji Yoraku, shows that the Nijiki and Bekki coexisted at the beginning of the Heian period. Fujiwara no Michisuke's Kujodono Ikai also teaches that each day after waking up, the first thing to do is to note the events of the previous day in the rekiki, and that important official matters should be recorded separately in detail for future reference.
