Bethlehem
A town in the mountains 8km south of Jerusalem in the West Bank of Palestine. According to Christian tradition, it is the birthplace of Jesus Christ. It is 775m above sea level. Its name means "House of Bread" and it is a town closely related to the Bible. The town is home to the Church of the Nativity, one of the oldest churches in the world, built over the cave where Jesus was born. It has been under Israeli occupation since the 1967 Six-Day War. It has a population of about 32,000.
