Bai people (White) - Bái zú (English spelling)

Japanese: ペー族(白族) - ペーぞく（英語表記）Bái zú

One of China's minority groups. They live in the Dali Basin, on the west coast of the Erhai Sea in Yunnan Province, as well as in Eryuan, Jianchuan, and Heqing, and form the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. They are also found in Kunming, Yuanjiang, Nanhua, and Lijiang. The population was 1,598,000 (1990). The Bai language belongs to the Yi branch of the Tibeto-Burman branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family, but there is also a theory that it forms a separate Bai branch. The Bai people in the Dali area were called Minjia (Minjia), and in the Lanping and Bijiang areas they were called Nama (Nama) and Lama (Lama).

中国の少数民族の一つ。雲南省の洱海西岸に開けた大理盆地および洱源，剣川，鶴慶などに聚居し，大理ペー族自治州を形成する民族。昆明，元江，南華，麗江などにも分布する。人口は159万8000(1990)。ペー語はシナ･チベット語族チベット･ビルマ語派イ(彝)語支に属すが，単独でペー語支を形成するという説もある。大理地区のペー族はミンチヤ(民家)と呼ばれ，蘭坪･碧江一帯ではナマ(那馬)，ラマ(拉馬)と呼ばれた。
