A former town in Hoi District, southern Aichi Prefecture. Akasaka, the city center, flourished as a post station on the Tokaido. The town is served by the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line and the Tomei Expressway. Rice farming, livestock farming, and greenhouse horticulture are carried out, and the town also produces myoga, fennel, and shiitake mushrooms. It is becoming a commuter town for Okazaki City and Toyohashi City. In January 2008, it was incorporated into Toyokawa City and Mitsu Town in Hoi District. 29.66 km2 .
