Christian architecture - Christian architecture
In Christianity, cathedrals are buildings dedicated to various functions such as performing liturgical ceremonies, educating candidates for Christianity, baptism, storing ceremonial implements and donations, and housing clergy. In addition to cathedrals, they also include memorial halls for martyrs, tombs, baptistery halls, and monasteries. Since the Roman Empire officially recognized Christianity in 313, many have been built around the country as important public buildings. Their architectural style has also changed over the years, but representative cathedrals as Christian architecture include the basilica cathedral that developed around the 4th century, the centralized plan cathedrals of the Byzantine Empire, and the development of the Romanesque and Gothic basilica cathedrals from the 9th to 15th centuries. Since the 19th century, cathedrals have been built in various styles using various materials and the latest technology in an effort to express religious architecture appropriate to modern times.
