It is the common name used for condors of the family Vulturedae, which both feed on carrion, or vultures of the family Accipitridae. In ornithology, there is no bird called a vulture, so the correct English word for vulture is vulture in the Old World and condor in the New World. The two are similar in ecology and morphology, but are somewhat distantly related in taxonomy. As both vultures and condors are birds that swarm around corpses and feed on carrion, they are also used as an analogy for villains who prey on the weak for their own selfish gain.
