Bun'ya Bushi - Bun'ya Bushi

Japanese:
Bun'ya Bushi - Bun'ya Bushi

A school of joruri founded by Okamoto Fumiya. Okamoto Fumiya (?-1694) is said to have been a disciple of Yamamoto Kakutayu. He performed mainly katarimono (narrated works) by Kakutayu and Inoue Harima no Jo at the Ito Dewa no Jo theater in Dotonbori, Osaka, and his style became popular from the 1670s (Enpo era). It was characterized by a mournful melody, and was called "Fumiya's crying melody." Many melodic forms were also incorporated into Gidayu-bushi, but it is difficult to extract the characteristics of Fumiya-bushi from the current melody. Although the second Fumiya appeared around 1702 (Genroku 15), it was soon abandoned due to being overshadowed by Gidayu-bushi. Until recently, it was also performed as music for Fumiya dolls in Ishikawa and Kagoshima prefectures, but now it is handed down as a local performing art in Sado.
